Company: Wespine Region: South West How long have you worked in the timber industry? This is my second year apprenticeship – it’s the first I’ve had to do with the industry. |
Tell us about your job – what is your role?
We work in a pine mill. We have a bunch of different saws for cutting up the wood, which we fix and sharpen and get them ready to be used again.
What is your favourite thing about your job?
It’s pretty close to home, and a good bunch of people I work with. The place is good, they’re always onto safety – it’s pretty good all round.
What is one thing about the timber industry that people don’t know or realise?
People don’t realise the scale of the timber industry. They see the houses getting built, but they don’t see the underlying effort that goes on to get to that process.
What would you like to see change or improve for the future of the industry?
I’d like to see more plantations developed throughout the South West to secure the timber industry as a whole to ensure a bright future.
