Plantation grown timbers are a valuable renewable resource.
Plantations provide positive, long-lasting social, environmental and economic benefits to the Western Australian community. Plantations reduce pressure on our native forests to provide wood resources, as well as reducing our reliance on imported timbers.
Plantations have significant environmental benefits: they can improve the water quality in a catchment, and can also be planted in areas with high dry land salinity in order to lower the water table. Plantations contribute significantly to the reduction of CO2 in the atmosphere as they are grown, harvested and replanted.
Our plantation industry workers manage the life cycle of their trees from seed planting to harvest, planning decades in advance to ensure timber supply is available. For more information, check out the video below.
