Production and Manufacturing

The WA Forestry Industry's Production and Manufacturing Sector is responsible for processing raw timber into a wide variety of products for local and international markets. We have major production centres throughout the Great Southern, South West and Metropolitan Regions of Western Australia.

Hardwood plantations such as bluegums are grown primarily to produce woodchips for processing into pulp and paper products.

Softwood plantations such as pine are processed locally into sawn pine timer, laminated veneer lumber for residential and commercial construction, and laminated particle board. Pine is also used for power poles.

Native timbers are mainly used for high end products such as flooring and furniture. The residues are used for the local production of silicon, which is shipped all over the world.
