Sustainable Industry

The WA Timber Industry is among the most sustainably managed in the world.

Of all the forest area available for harvest, less than 1% is harvested annually - and all harvested forest is regrown. 851,280 hectares of regrowth forest is available for harvest, while 1.4 million hectares of national parks, reserves and other protected areas are not available.

Some of our major parks and reserves — Lane Poole, Big Brook, Boranup — are regrowth forests successfully regenerated for everyone to enjoy.

Local councils in WA are establishing policies to encourage the use of natural, timber-based products in construction

Australia's forest industries have pledged that with the right policy settings, they will provide a massive 18 megatonnes of greenhouse gas mitigation every year from 2030.

The timber industry formally co-operates with state agencies, providing staff and equipment to carry out fire suppression for public and private land on a voluntary basis, in addition to their own, independent wildfire control.
